Leafy surroundings at Westfield's ground. |
If I simply said that I was going to Westfield on Bank Holiday Monday some people may think that I may have gone soft and gone shopping instead of watching football! Located a short walk from Woking's Kingsfield Stadium, Westfield's ground is something of a building site. Due to the Hoe Valley redevelopment, the area surrounding the ground is currently dug up and Westfield will eventually have a new stand and pitch.

Staines arrive joint top of the table and in the first half they show why they are one of the early pace setters. However, both teams struggle with their passing as the grass is quite long. Despite this, Staines scored two good goals before half time as Westfield struggled to get in to the game. Enrico Rossoni was impressive up front for the away side.

Westfield came out for the second half and showed a lot more going forward. As a result of a teasing cross in to the Staines box a defender headed against his own bar and the danger was cleared. Later in the half the away goalkeeper was beaten but the shot on goal was cleared off the line. The visiting goal keeper made two good saves when Westfield players broke through. Staines had a goal disallowed for off side towards the end of the game as they held on an away win.

The ground is about 25-30 minutes walk from Woking station. You can cut through the park to the ground or if it is a night game you can walk down Claremont Road and turn left in to Kingfield Road. There is also the no. 71 bus which you can from outside the train to more or less outside the ground. There are more frequent buses which stop outside the leisure centre which is a five minute walk from the ground. The clubhouse is a decent size and serves beer on tap amongst other things.
