First FA Vase Game Of The Season - Hertford Town vs. Mauritius Sports Association

Hertford Castle through the trees.
For my first FA Vase match of the season I went to Hertford for their game against Mauritius Sports Association (I will from this point onwards refer to them as MSA to make things easier!). The town centre is a short walk from either station (East or North) and is worth visiting. The best pub in the town is the Old Cross Tavern next the river and is about 10 - 15 minutes walk from the ground. There is also a good chip shop a short walk away! The castle grounds are also worth a walk around, although the castle itself is closed on Saturdays.

The main stand with the clubhouse to the left.
The ground is located next to a river and in the gents there is a mark showing where the flood waters once reached. The clubhouse is quite small but serve a good selection of beer. The clubhouse does not have Sky Sports. If you want a game beforehand you should go to the Black Horse on West Street which is five minutes from the ground.

Another view of the stand and covered terracing at one end of the ground.
The game has a cagey start and there are no real clear cut chances. The first real chance of the game comes from a Hertford corner and this chance is put away. The first half is quite scrappy with the referee giving quite a few free kicks.

The moments before the first Hertford goal.

In the second half MSA, backed by a band of screaming women and children start to get back in to the game and play some good attacking football. They have several decent chances but unfortunately they fail to take any of them. Hertford added two late goals to give the score a slightly one sided look which doesn't really do the away justice.

Leafy surroundings of Hertingfordbury Park.
As I said in the first paragraphs, there are two stations in Hertford (East and North). Trains from London depart from Liverpool Street and Kings Cross respectively. Both are around a 20-25 minute steady walk away from the ground.
