The impressive Frank Adams Stand. |
The cold snap over the weekend caused havoc with non league football across the country and resulted in most games being postponed. This unfortunately included my first choice match of Camberley Town vs. Guildford City and so after finding out that Adams Parks had under soil heating, I headed there for Wycombe's home game against Tranmere in League One. Due to a prior engagement, I had missed Scunthorpe's match here on the opening weekend of the season which ended in a one all draw. Wycombe had started the day at the foot of the table but they knew they could get themselves out of the relegation zone with a win. After a promising start Tranmere have been on a bad run of late and were in the bottom half of the table.

Tranmere push back Wycombe from the off and it is no surprise when they take the lead. Adam McGurk is allowed to cut in from the wing and fire a great shot past the goalkeeper. Tranmere begin to ease off following their busy start and are punished with two goals in quick succession. Firstly Wycombe new boy Whichelow heads home a cross from ex-Lincoln favourite Gareth Ainsworth. Ainsworth soon scores a goal of his own to ensure that Wycombe go in at half time one up. Tranmere have most of the play in the second half but Wycombe still create a few chances on the break. Tranmere hit the bar twice in the second half and have a late goal disallowed for offside but Wycombe hold on for three vital points.

The ground is quite a distance from High Wycombe Station. The number 32 bus from the bus station drops you off at
The Hourglass pub which is about ten minutes from the ground. I recommend The Hourglass for a pre match pint. It wasn't very busy, accommodated for away fans and had Sky Sports. At the ground itself there is The Scores Sports Bar which also allows in away fans and has Sky Sports. Trains for High Wycombe depart from Marylebone on a regular basis and the journey takes between twenty and forty minutes.
