Visitors Claim Three Points At The Triangle - Henley Town vs. Milton United

Henley on the attack just before the supernova hit
This weekend for what felt like the first time in ages, I visited a new ground. I headed out west for Henley Town's home game against Milton United in the Hellenic League Division One East encounter. I'd been meaning to visiting Henley for a while but the small number of teams in the division and the recent weather means that this was Henley's first Saturday home league game since October. Henley were at the bottom of the league with only one point which was gained in the reverse fixture in November.

Kick off at The Triangle
From the kick off it is difficult to understand why Henley are in the position they're in. They comfortably match the visitors and pass the ball around. They have a great chance to take the lead but the striker can't convert when sent clean through. They also have another chance when the Henley player shoots just wide from the edge of the box. Milton have a few chances of their own and they should score when the a free header is put well wide. Just before half time they do take the lead with a header from a corner.

Moments before the Milton Goal
Henley continue to attack in the second half and the game has become very end to end with both teams having chances. Henley have another one on one chance but again the chance goes begging. Milton have a couple of chances on the break but they fail to extend their lead. In the final stages of the game Henley manage to force a succession of corners and despite their best efforts Milton hold out for the away win.

The stand and clubhouse at The Triangle.
Henley is an attractive town and it worth looking around before the game. It also has a good selection of pubs, my first port of call was The Argyll right by the market place. I then also visited The Beer Tree which had an impressive selection of beers and Sky Sports. The ground is a fifteen minute walk from the Henley-On-Thames station. There are no direct trains from London and you have to change at Twyford. The journey takes just over an hour and there is only one train an hour from Twyford. The clubhouse is fairly basic but the welcome is exceptional. The chap working the bar and tea bar (John I think) was incredibly friendly and a credit to the club.
