Town Win In FA Cup - Wokingham And Embrook vs. Camberley Town (At Bracknell Town)

The Camberley winger receives the ball.
For my first FA Cup action and first new ground of the season I travelled to Berkshire for Wokingham and Embrook's home tie with Camberley Town. This game was being played on Sunday as the home side share with Bracknell who played local rivals Binfield in the cup on Saturday in front of nearly 400 people. Camberley have had a mixed start to the season. They were beaten 4-0 by South Park in the opening game before beating run away division one champions Guernsey 1-0 the following Tuesday. Wokingham won their only game of the season so far, beating Abingdon Town 3-1.

Wokingham and Embrook have the first chance of the game when the striker gets clean through but the Camberley keeper makes a great save with his feet. Camberley then have a chance of their own but the effort on goal is blocked by one of their own players. The Wokingham goalie makes a save from point blank range shortly afterwards as Camberley begin to get on top of the game. They take the lead when a Camberley player is allowed to cut inside and fires a shot in to the top corner. There are no more clear cut chances in the half as the visitors go in one up.

First half action with the covered terrace in the background.
The second half almost has a pre season feel to it as the place slows a bit. Camberley have a few half chances but fail to make the Wokingham keeper work. It looks like they are going to be made to pay for failing to take those chances when the Camberley keeper trips the Wokingham player and the referee points to the spot. However, the keeper redeems himself when he makes a fantastic one handed save from the penalty to preserve his sides lead. Camberley add a second late on and they go on to play Chalfont St Peter in the next round.

Uncovered side of the ground.
Trains to Bracknell depart from Waterloo every half an hour and the journey takes exactly one hour. The walk from the station to the ground takes about twenty minutes. Before the game I popped in to The Old Manor which is a Weatherspoons but is in one of the oldest buildings in the town which is a good setting. While I was waiting for my train, I popped in to The Goose At The Station which is opposite the station itself. The clubhouse has a pub feel and is worth a visit before the game. The Wokingham programme which is entitled 'The Suma Rumour' is by far the best name for a match day programme I've seen so far!

Camberley look for the vital second goal.
