The stand at a sunny Chalky Lane |
As the season has now finished, I'm going to do a few posts showing the grounds of the Combined Counties League. This season hasn't been the best for either Chessington and Hook or Colliers Wood, finishing third and forth bottom respectively. This unfortunately meant that Chessington and Hook are relegated to the first division. Colliers Wood can take some joy from their excellent run in the league cup which saw them lose after extra against run away division one champions Guernsey. I made my trip to Chalky Lane in the 2009/10 season on a sunny but freezing day in March. Going in to the game Chessington were in forth while Colliers Wood were third from bottom. Due to a terrible start to the year in terms of weather. Chessington were playing only their fifth league game of the season in March!

Just before kick off. |
Colliers Wood took an early lead through a brilliant effort from outside the box but Chessington equalised almost straight away. The home side then took the lead through a soft penalty. In to the second half and Chessington further extend their lead from a free kick and they complete the scoring following a mistake from the visiting keeper.

The open nature of Chalky Lane |
Chalky Lane is a short walk from Chessington South Station. Trains depart to Chessington South from Waterloo every half hour and the journey takes just over thirty minutes. Before the game I went to
The Harrow which is on Leatherhead Road. From memory it was a chain pub but was good for a pre match pint. Saying that the more time spent in the clubhouse the better. I remember it being very friendly and it is worth getting there before kick off for a beer.
