The view from the stand at Youngs Drive. |
Towards the start of the 2009-10 season I travelled to Hampshire for the FA Vase second qualifying round tie between Ash United and Tunbridge Wells. Earlier in the season I'd seen Ash United demolish Hassocks 4-1 in the FA Cup at the Beacon Ground. The previous weekend they had been knocked out of the FA Cup away at Uxbridge in a thrilling match. In the league Ash were having a mixed season and were firmly in mid table.

Ash weren't as convincing in the FA Vase as they were in the cup. Three apparently fortunate goals (a slip up, a questionable penalty and a deflected effort) gave them a 3-2 win. Although Tonbridge didn't look particularly threatening.

There are no direct trains from London to Ash. The quickest way is to go from Waterloo to Guildford and get to Ash from there. The whole journey takes just under an hour. Before the game I went to
The Greyhound which is a five minute walk from the ground and has lots of outdoor seating. From memory the clubhouse is quite large and has Sky Sports on a big screen.
