Griffin Park in the sun. |
I once again abandoned non league to see Scunthorpe in league action this weekend. I made the extended journey to Brentford (due to lots of engineering works) for our League 1 encounter. As many away fans have before us we made the aim to visit every pub on every corner. We visited the Princess Royal and New Inn before the game. The later having a TV outside so you can enjoy the game and the sunshine at the same time.

The Bees United Stand. |
As with the Stevenage game, the quality of football was somewhat lacking. Scunthorpe could have taken the lead in the first minute when a header was cleared off the line. That was exciting as the first half got with neither keeper having to make a save. The second half had started quite openly but the game's main talking point happening when Andrew Wright is harshly sent off for a second yellow. Brentford have a lot of possession but Johnstone deals with the all the balls pumped in the box. The Iron have a few chances on the break but there are no big chances as the game ends 0-0.

The Bill Axbey Stand. |
As I mentioned earlier the journey to Brentford was a lot more difficult then it should have been. The most direct route to Brentford would have been to get the train from Clapham Junction. We ended up getting the Northern Line to Embankment, then the District Line to Gunnersbury and then a bus to Brentford. I have to say the away day as a whole was worth it. We visited the Royal Oak and the Griffin to complete the four pubs after the game. We also visited the Royal Houseguardsman on the way back to the bus stop. It was a brilliant away day and the home fans were very friendly as well. The ground has an old school feel to it and is defiantly worth a visit.
