End Of Season Game - Waltham Abbey vs. Potters Bar Town

The main stand at Cappershots
For the final game of the Easter Bank Holiday weekend I headed to Essex for the Ryman North game between Waltham Abbey and Potters Bar Town. Both teams were comfortably in mid table and despite their being not too much to play for, the game didn't disappoint. The seats from the main stand in the picture were taken from Manchester City's old Maine Road ground.

Potters Bar take the lead with the first attack of the game. The home goalie spills a shot and the Potters Bar player is on hand to knock the ball home from close range. Despite the heat, the game is played at a quick pace and the quality is also there despite an uneven pitch. The home side get on level terms when the Waltham Abbey player has a free header from a corner. The game then becomes a midfield battle with few chances. That is until the home side win a corner which Potters Bar fail to clear properly and the Waltham Abbey player scores an overhead kick from close range to put his side in to the lead.

The second half has a very end of season fell to it. The home team manage to force a few corners but do very little with them. They are punished for not making more of these opportunities when the Potters Bar winger smashes home a half volley from out wide which rips in to the net. That was unfortunately the last meaningful action of the half and with news filtering through of Scunthorpe's loss and subsequent inevitable relegation I headed to the pub.

The closest station to the ground is Waltham Cross, which is a twenty five minute journey from Liverpool Street and there are two trains every hour. The ground is around a thirty minute brisk walk from the station. In the main there are three pubs. I tried the Welsh Harp and the Queens Arms and I preferred the former but both are worth a visit. The clubhouse is quite large and has a good selection of drinks.

More first half action with the other area of covered standing in the background.
