The stand at Wey Court before kick off |
For my first FA Trophy game of the 2009-10 season, I took in Godalming Town's home tie with VT FC (now Sholing FC). This was VT FC's first ever game in the competition having being promoted from the Wessex League the previous season. They had made a strong start to their first Southern League campaign winning 5 out of the first 6 games. The hosts were having a good season themselves and were level on points with league leaders Folkstone.

Match action with covered standing in the background. |
The game opened with an absolute screamer from the Godalming player to put his side one up.They soon got a second but VT pulled one back a few minutes later. VT hit the bar twice after half time but Godalming made sure of the victory with five minutes to go.

Wey Court is a short walk from Farncombe Station. Trains to Farncombe depart from Waterloo every half hour and the journey takes three quarters of an hour. From memory there weren't any pubs in between the station and the ground although I'm sure they'd be one near by. The clubhouse is quite large and had quite a few drinks on offer.
