Sun through the trees at The Spectrum Leisure Centre |
I stated in my post about Camberley Town that I had now visited all the Combined Counties Premier League grounds (that is until next season when Guernsey and Hartley Wintney take their place in the division). Over the summer I'm going to aim to cover the grounds which I haven't yet posted about. Towards the end of the 2009/10 season I headed to the Spectrum Leisure Centre for Guildford's home match against Epsom and Ewell. Both teams were close to the top of the league and so it promised to be a decent game.

To be perfectly honest, I don't remember a lot of the game other then the notes in my scrap book! The Epsom keeper got sent off in the first half and Guildford take advantage soon afterwards. Despite being down to ten men, Epsom still play a lot of football and equalise soon afterwards. The second half saw Guildford have a lot of the ball and do eventually find the second goal. Epsom still push for the second equaliser but Guildford see out the rest of the game.

Since my visit to The Spectrum there have been some changes made to the ground so that they claim their place in the Ryman League. There wasn't a clubhouse at the ground when I was there, but alcohol was available in one the cabins used by the athletics club. The club do have a social club which is about a ten minute walk from the ground. The station is about a twenty minute walk from Guildford station. Trains depart every half hour from Waterloo and the journey takes about forty minutes.
