The West Stand at Brisbane Road |
Following a vital victory in midweek over fellow strugglers Rochdale, Scunthorpe travelled to East London to take on Leyton Orient. Orient had won 3-2 at Glanford Park earlier in the season but the Iron, boosted by a couple of new faces were looking to pull away from the relegation zone. I'd visited Brisbane Road on two previous occasions and both times the game ended in a draw. Leyton were relatively comfortable in mid table and also won on Tuesday night away at Bournemouth.

The North Stand |
The start of the game is a major non event with neither side creating any chances. A lot of the game is played in the middle of the park and there is little for either set of supporters to get excited about. Orient take the lead with the first real chance of the match. The ball is crossed in from the left and the Orient striker powers a header past Slocombe in the Scunthorpe goal. This is the last significant action of the half and the Scunthorpe fans are pretty downbeat at half time. Scunthorpe however come out and dominate for most of the second half. Josh Walker gets his second Scunthorpe goal with a volley inside the box. As the game enters the final five minutes The Iron take the lead. Following a near passage of play, Andy Barcham puts Scunthorpe ahead and Jon Parkin adds a third in the final minute. Unfortunately just before the third goal, the Orient keeper is injured and has to be stretchered off. Scunthorpe have a massive game on Tuesday night when they host Wallsall.

The closest station to Brisbane Road is Leyton which is on the Central Line and the journey from Central London takes about twenty minutes. From the station, the ground is a ten minute along Leyton High Road. Two minutes walk from the away turnstile is
The Coach and Horses which is a large pub which welcomes away fans. In the away end itself you can get Fosters and this is the only alcoholic drink on offer. After the game we went to
Tap East which is located in the Westfield shopping centre. Despite its location this is a great bar with several ales and lots of imported beers on offer.
