Sunny Day At Bottom Meadow. |
I made my second trip of the season to Sandhurst for their home match against Colliers Wood United in the Combined Counties League Premier. I'd been to Sandhurst previously to get a taxi to go on to Eversley. I'd also seen Sandhurst a couple of weeks ago despatch of Farnham Town and I was hoping to see a different outcome on this occasion. I catch Colliers Wood a couple of times a season and I saw them defeat Dorking in this season's FA Vase. Unfortunately The Wood haven't been able to repeat that form in the league and were sitting just outside the relegation zone. They won their last match against Chessington And Hook United and were looking to put a run together to pull themselves away from the drop zone.

The stand at Bottom Meadow |
The match has an even start and Colliers Wood have quite a bit of the ball in the Sandhurst half. However, it is Sandhurst who take the lead with a scrappy goal. They double their lead when a cross in to the box isn't dealt with and the Sandhurst player fires the ball home on the half volley. Despite being two down Colliers Wood still create a few chances and get back in to the game with a great goal. A corner wasn't fully cleared and the ball is hit home from just outside the box. Both teams looked for the vital fourth goal but it didn't come before half time.

First half action. |
The match is quite end at the start of the first half. It is Sandhurst who get the vital fourth goal. Another ball in to the box isn't dealt with properly and after a bit of pinball in the box the ball is fired home. Colliers Wood have a few chances to get back in to the game but they can't finish of them. Colliers Wood now go in to the derby with Raynes Park Vale on Wednesday night looking for a vital three to pull away from the relegation zone.

Before the game I went to
The White Swan to watch the Liverpool vs. Manchester United game. The pub had lots of big screens and also served a few ales. It got very busy during the game but there were plenty screens to prevent this being an issue. I popped in to the Flying Fish chippy on the way to the pub and I can recommend doing that on the way to the ground. The Ground itself is about a twenty minute walk from Sandhurst station. From London Paddington you have to change at Reading and the journey takes about an hour. It is worth timing your journey correctly as only one train an hour goes to Sandhurst. The clubhouse is quiet small but serves a good selection drinks.
