Yet More Goals In The SSML - Amersham Town vs. Wodson Park

The stand at Spratley's Meadow

I took in another Spartan South Midlands League match this weekend. I travelled right to end of the Metropolitan Line to Amersham for their division one game with Wodson Park. Amersham have been on a bad run recently after a decent start. They had taken no points from their previous eight league games. They had a morale boosting win over Bierton in the Wycombe Senior in midweek where scored a few goals. Wodson Park themselves found themselves at the wrong end of the table and so both sides needed a win to put some distence between themselves and the bottom of the table.

Bright sunlight just before kick off.
After an even start, the away side are gifted the lead. The goalie misjudges a cross from the right and the ball hits the back of the net. Wodson Park now take control and soon double the lead. The away side are given too much time in the box and the striker is allowed to turn and fire the ball home. Most of the game now is being played in the middle of the park but Wodson manage to add a third. Another cross from the right catches the keeper out and Wodson are cruising. Amersham have a great chance to get back in to the game just before half time but the forward puts the ball wide when clean through.

Just before the third goal. The clubhouse is in the background.
Amersham come out in the second half with a lot more purpose as they try to claw a goal back. However, Wodson soon go further ahead. The striker holds up the ball and the midfielder is allowed to run through and make it four. They soon make it five just before Amersham hit the post when the winger breaks in to the penalty area. The Wodson striker adds an impressive sixth when he fires in to the opposite top corner. Amersham still try to get a goal but they come up short and the game finishes six nil.

As with a lot of places I've been to recently, Amersham Old Town is very idyllic. Before the game I went to The Kings Arms which also does fantastic sausages rolls. As I mentioned earlier, I walked from Amersham station which in on the Metropolitan Line and the trains take about half an hour from Baker Street. Alternatively you take a Chiltern train from Marylebone which takes a similar length of time. The walk is about half an hour or you can get a bus from the station. The clubhouse is quite large but doesn't have Sky.

Impressive clouds in the second half.
