Glanford Park |
For the second of my Boxing Day matches, I went to Glanford Park to see Scunthorpe United versus Bury. Scunthorpe are struggling in League One Following relegation from the Championship. Bury on the other hand were appating well following promotion from League Two. The game had added spice as it was Bury who current Scunthorpe manager left to replace Ian Baraclough at the end of last season. Glanford Park was my first ever ground and I hadn't seen a game there since the 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the end of the 2009-10 season.

The Scunthorpe Telegraph Stand. |
Scunthorpe dominate the first half from the first whistle. They score early on from a Michael O'Connor free kick and have lots of other chances but find the Bury keeper in fine form. At 1-0 you couldn't help but feel that wasn't enough and if Bury got one they could go on and win the game. That is exactly what happened. Scunthorpe conceded a soft goal from a free kick and heads dropped. Bury went on to score two further goals and fully deserve their win. Things are looking increasingly grim for Scunthorpe and something needs to change very soon. The only bright spot was the performances of Jimmy Ryan and Jordan Robertson who both looked impressive.

The Grove Wharf Stand. |
The ground is a good forty five minute to an hour walk from the station and the walk back involves a sizeable hill. There is a bus route which runs to Tesco opposite the ground or there are taxis outside the station. In terms of drinks beforehand I would recommend
The Honest Lawyer which serves a few ales and is popular with Iron fans. Closer to the ground there is
The Berkeley which is a Sam Smiths pub. There is also
The Old Farmhouse which is more of a family pub and can get very busy on match days. I believe there is bar in the away end.
