Return To Farnborough - Frimley Green vs. Staines Lammas

Stormy skies over the Frimley Green Rec.
After travelling to Farnborough twice last season, I returned to catch Frimley Green's home match with Staines Lammas. I saw the visitors at Westfield last season and they were comfortable winners in that match. The home side had fought for a very good point in the opening weekend away at much fancied Warlingham while the Lammas suffered a home defeat to Hartley Witney. Both sides will be looking to improve on last seasons finishings. Frimley had finished in the bottom five while the Lammas had achieved a top ten position.

Finally kick off in a league game!
In the opening exchanges it is the home team who dominate. They really have a go at the visitors and draw a decent save from the Lammas keeper with a fantastic half volley from just outside the area. The visitors then take control of the half. They manage to force a series of corners and the home goalie makes a good save from a header. It is from one of these corners that the Lammas take the lead. The Staines player is allowed to head the ball at the near post and the keeper can do nothing about it. Staines then double the lead from the penalty spot following a trip on the Lammas striker when clean through. They miss several other chances including a completely free header at the back post, but they fail to add to their lead before half time.

The Staines Lammas lead is doubled.
The second half begins in much the same vain as the end of the first and the Lammas continue to waste a lot of chances. There is a long delay for injury when a Staines player follows right through a Frimley player and following a lengthy delay the Frimley player is carried off. When Staines do eventually double their lead, it is almost a copy of the first goal. Frimley then begin to attack a little more and the visiting keeper is forced in to a few saves but it remains 3-0 until the final whistle. This was a decent game and there were a lot of young talented players on both sides.

Staines on the attack in the second half.
The walk to the ground from Farnborough North is one of the more interesting ones I've done. You have to walk across two level crossings, between two lakes and over one flyover. It takes around twenty five minutes and to get to Farnborough North you have to either change at Woking or Guildford. The Old Wheatsheaf  has rave reviews on Beer In The Evening and the reviews are justified. It has a couple of ales and quite a large beer garden. The clubhouse at the ground is quite small but is friendly and looks like it has been done up relatively recently.

First half action with the clubhouse and small area of cover in the background.
