The view of the pitch and clubhouse on the grass bank at The Beacon Ground. |
The weekend just gone was the opening round of the FA Cup. This unfortunately clashed with Scunthorpe's visit to Charlton and so I wont be able to get to a FA Cup game until midweek. To fill the gap, this post is about when I went to Hassocks for their FA Cup tie at home to Ash United a couple of years ago. I'd been interested in Hassock's Beacon after reading about it on the
Nomad Online site and the FA Cup was a good reason to visit.

Match action with the stand in the background. |
As this match was quite a while ago I don't remember too many specific details. What I do remember is that Ash United were dominant throughout. They win the game by four goals to one and Ash had a lot of impressive attacking players.

Leafy surroundings at the Beacon Ground. |
The Beacon Ground is around a ten minute walk from Hassocks Station. I took the train from East Croydon, but trains depart from London Bridge or Victoria on a regular basis. The journey takes just under an hour. As far as I remember there weren't any pubs on the walk from the station to the ground. The clubhouse looked quite new and was quite big. As with a lot of Sussex League grounds, the Beacon Ground is quite scenic and has a very rural feel.

The hills surrounding the ground. There are two windmills in the distance. |
