Another Villa - Egham Town vs. Hanworth Villa.

The main stand at The Runnymede Stadium.
It is merely a coincidence that I went to see another Villa this weekend. Egham is one of the few Combined Counties Premier grounds that I hadn't been to yet. As I had a work reunion the previous night, the relatively short journey made this game an attractive option. Hanworth were on a run of five consecutive wins and were pushing up the table. Egham had surprisingly sacked their manager the previous week despite being in the top half of the table. The crowd was depleted as England were playing Wales at the same time but Hanworth brought with them a vocal set of fans.

Egham attack the clubhouse end.
The game kicks off in near summer conditions and the start of the game almost has a pre season feel. Hanworth play most of the football and should really take the lead when the striker is played through following a neat pass on the half way line but he shots wide. Egham manage to win a few free kicks near the penalty area but the final ball is missing. The Egham wingers are causing the visitors a lot of trouble. It is Hanworth who make most of the running towards the end of the second half but fail to find the target before half time.

Hanworth have an excellent chance to take the lead at the start of the first half (or so I heard, I was in the toilet at the time). It doesn't take long for Hanworth to take the lead though. Following a clumsy challenge the Hanworth player rolls the ball home from the spot. Egham fail to really create anything and Hanworth continue to have most of the chances. The most unlucky one is where the striker chips the ball first time over the keeper only for the ball to crash off the bar. Then in the last minute, a Hanworth player rounds the keeper but doesn't get enough power to beat the defender on the line. A disappointing afternoon for Egham.

The only goal of the game.
The ground is easy to get to from the station and is about a twenty five minute walk. There are lots of pubs in the town centre itself and there is The Robin Hood, five minutes from the ground itself. The clubhouse has the most comfortable sofas I have ever sat on! The drinks in the clubhouse are very cheap (£2:15 a pint) and has Sky Sports. Defiantly worth a visit! Trains depart from Waterloo and take around 35 minutes.
