As with last season, my first 'competitive' game of the season was the Kent League Charity Cup between the winners of The Kent League and the winners of The League Cup. This season it was between Faversham and Herne Bay. With Faversham going up a league following their title success, Herne Bay have a big task to win the game.

The ground has cover on two sides. Next to the clubhouse there is a curious structure, that looks like it was previously the officials seating. It is now fenced off and closed off to spectators.

There is covered standing behind one goal and a training pitch behind the other end.

In the game itself is quite entertaining. Herne Bay are not overawed by the higher ranked opponents and play the better football. Byron Walker in particular impresses for the visitors with several mazy runs and flashes of skill. The home side take the lead against the run of play with a close range header. Herne Bay continue to play decent football and get their reward when they get the equaliser just before half time. The home goal keeper spilled a long range effort and the striker knocked in the rebound. The second half is a lot less entertaining as the heat and numerous substitutions take there toil.
The ground is about a 20 minute walk from Faversham Station. Trains depart from London Victoria and St. Pancras and takes just over an hour. Be warned that if you travel from St. Pancras it is the 'fast' train and this costs extra. The town itself is home to the Shepard's Neame Brewery and you pass at least five pubs on the walk to the ground from the station.
