Colchester fans at Hayes Lane |
As the FA Cup First Round Replays have been played this week, I'm doing an FA Cup flash back post. Congratulations have to go to Redbridge, Stourbridge and I suppose Grimsby for defeating league opposition. From what I've heard, the less said about Scunthorpe's replay the better, but credit to AFC Wimbledon. Back to the game in question, Colchester were enjoying a good start to their season while Bromley had a mixed start. I'd been to Hayes Lane previously to watch tenets Cray Wanderers but it was good to go back and see the ground quite full.

There was unfortunately no cup shock this time round. The front line of Clive Platt and former Scunthorpe loan player Kayode Odejayi proved far too strong for Bromley. The visitors romped to a 4-0 win in front of a decent crowd.

Unique wooden stand at one end of the ground. |
The closest station to Hayes Lane is Bromley South which is a brisk twenty minute walk or a five minute bus ride away. In terms of a pre match pint the best bet is the Weatherspoons opposite the station. I don't remember passing a pub on the way to the ground. The clubhouse is quite spacious and from memory had Sky Sports.
